It feels odd knowing I'll never return. "Home is the place when you go there, they have to take you in." In western society, most people move away from their family of origin. In spite of this fact, it is good to know that the home of your youth is still there. It is nice to know that our parents are still living there, and that your bedroom is just as you left it. This provides a certain of stability as you struggle to build your own house and home. Eventually it is likely that your parents will sell the family home and begin their retirement years.

As a mother, I am both proud of her and afraid for her. I wrote this poem for her to keep with her, so that she will never feel alone. I also found that it really helped me to write it. Hopefully, it can do the same for those who honor me by reading it.

And I'm very lonely but being faithful because of the love in my heart. And I write poems to occupy my mind. This is about the connections we have with our family/childhood home. I was born there, we grew up there, our father died there, we had many family gatherings there. I have known that house my whole life, visiting my parents, then just my Mother. Today after 63 years it has new owners, only the second family to occupy the house.
